Sven-Goran Eriksson’s former partner Nancy Dell’Olio places rose on his coffin

Nancy Dell’Olio has paid tribute to her former partner Sven-Goran Eriksson by placing a rose on his coffin.

The former England manager died on 24 February aged 76 following a long battle with dementia.

Dell’Olio, who was in a relationship with Eriksson for five years until 2007, was among the mourners who attended his funeral in Sweden on Monday.

She placed a single red rose on his coffin as it was carried into the church.

Dell’Olio said she was “deeply saddened” by Eriksson’s death.

"He was a wonderful man and I will always cherish the memories we shared,” she said.

Eriksson, who also managed Manchester City and Leicester City, is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time.

He led England to the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup and the semi-finals of the 2004 European Championship.

He also won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2003 and the FA Cup with Leicester City in 2004.

Eriksson was diagnosed with dementia in 2019.

He died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Sweden on 24 February.
